Description

Rieger Cattle Co. was established in 2012 shortly after we started transitioning farmland from conventional to organic. How do cattle go hand-in-hand with organic grain farming? For one, cattle do great things for our soil. We graze them on our organic corn fields post-harvest to naturally fertilize and aerate the soil. The combination of these two components increases organic matter, resulting in a higher yielding crop. The organic crops consist of corn, soybeans, wheat, clover, oats and alfalfa hay. We feed a combination of all these products, with the exception of soybeans, to our cattle in some form. For example, a portion of our corn crop is chopped and stored as silage or earlage for specific stages of growth where our cattle require a different variation of grain. All Rieger cattle follow a regimented, comprehensive ration program that is adjusted as they reach new growth stages.

What separates Rieger Cattle Co. beef from other meat producers? We believe in the old saying, “you are what you eat”. When it comes to our beef we have grown, from seed to feed, both our cattle as well as the products they are raised on. With each harvest we repeat a cycle of sustainability that starts with our soil and ends with our beef. It is our mission to preserve old values, educate others on regenerative agriculture and ultimately create a food source we believe is of the utmost quality and nutrition.
